The Landing School is a 501(C)(3) incorporated by the State of Maine and governed by a board of trustees:
John T. Burgess, Co-founder
Trained in education and as a boatbuilder, Mr. Burgess founded the school in 1978 with co-founder Ms. Tupper. Previous President of the Landing School, Mr. Burgess presently focuses on the school's development efforts and relations with the marine industry.
Helen C. Tupper, Co-founder
Ms. Tupper co-founded and taught boatbuilding at the Landing School. An artist, she is active with Maine Audubon Society and other conservation groups.
Peter R. Worrell, Chair
Mr. Worrell is the president of Bigelow Company, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience gained working as an executive and board member with both non-profit and for-profit organizations.
Pat Robins, Vice-chair
Currently the chairman and co-founder of The Symquest Group, a technology services company with headquarters in So. Burlington, Vermont, and offices in Plattsburgh NY, Rutland VT, W. Lebanon, NH, and Keene NH, Mr. Robins has been actively involved in healthcare management and governance, serving as chair of the University Health Center board, trustee of the Medical Center Hospital, chair of the Vermont regulatory commission, the Hospital Data Council, and chair and founder of Employers Health Alliance.
Richard L. Parisen, Treasurer
A former naval aviator and airline pilot, Mr. Parisen continued a career in investment management and management consulting. Before joining the board, Mr. Parisen served as the executive director of the school.
Peter L. Murray, Secretary
A principal of the Portland firm of Murray, Plumb and Murray, Mr. Murray is a professor at the Harvard Law School. He continues to sail a 30' schooner, which he built while attending school in the early 1960s.
William W. Alcorn
A founder of Wood Structures Inc., the Northeast's largest wood truss manufacturer, Mr. Alcorn is a rowing enthusiast and art collector. He is the Chairman of the school's Facilities Committee.
Robert J. DeColfmaker
With more than 25 years of experience in higher education, entrepreneurship and nonprofit governance, Mr. Decolfmaker is currently a consultant with Stevens Strategy,
a management consulting firm specializing education institutions.
Eric Goetz
Mr. Goetz is the owner of Goetz Custom Sailboats, builders of advanced technology America's Cup boats, maxi boats and offshore racing sail and power boats.
David Gould
Mr. Gould is a Maine businessman, developer, and powerboater who is affiliated with more than 20 businesses and charitable organizations and schools in the roles of president, chairman, manager, treasurer and board member.
Dr. John Lastavica
An operations research specialist for Robert McNamara at Ford Motor Company and later with the Bank of Boston, Dr. Lastavica is active on several educational and cultural boards. Dr. Lastavica was a previous chairman of The Landing School Board of Trustees.
Christopher Pierce
Mr. Pierce is chairman of The Dingley Press, a
full-service catalog printer located in Lisbon, Maine. Mr. Pierce is an alum of Bowdoin College
Rives Potts
A graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and UVA's Colgate Darden School of Business, Potts grew up sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, which prepared him for America's Cup roles under Dennis Connor and John Kolius syndicates. Rives is now a member of the Brewers Yacht Yards management team and has been an active member of The School's Boatbuilding Program Advisory Committee.
Drake H. Sparkman III
Mr. Sparkman, grandson of Drake Sparkman, co-founder of the world famous New York yacht brokerage and design firm Sparkman & Stephens, brings a wealth of marketing and advertisement knowledge gained from numerous years at prestigious New York advertisement firms. A lifelong sailor, Mr. Sparkman currently works as a financial consultant.
W. Bradford Willauer, Chair
Mr. Willauer is an investment counselor for Head and Associates who generously divides his volunteer time among numerous local and national organizations.
